D\u00e8s 1865, la Haute-Loire manifeste sa volont\u00e9 de relier Le Puy \u00e0 la ligne de Paris \u00e0 N\u00eemes, via Clermont-Ferrand, afin de rallier le Languedoc et de desservir le sud du d\u00e9partement. D\u00e9clar\u00e9e d&rsquo;utilit\u00e9 publique dans le cadre d&rsquo;un itin\u00e9raire \u00ab<small class=\"fine d-inline\">\u00a0<\/small>de Mende au Puy<small class=\"fine d-inline\">\u00a0<\/small>\u00bb par une loi le 24\u00a0mars 1879. Elle est conc\u00e9d\u00e9e \u00e0 titre d\u00e9finitif \u00e0 la Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris \u00e0 Lyon et \u00e0 la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e (<span class=\"caps\">PLM<\/span>) par une loi le 2\u00a0ao\u00fbt 1886. Cependant les travaux n&rsquo;ont commenc\u00e9 que 11 ans plus tard. Le 1<sup class=\"typo_exposants\">er<\/sup>\u00a0juillet 1912, soit 22 ans apr\u00e8s les premiers coups de pioches, la ligne est mise en service.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prolongement logique de la ligne de Saint-Germain des Foss\u00e9s \u00e0 Darsac<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le tron\u00e7on est strat\u00e9gique. Il interconnecte plusieurs axes\u00a0: depuis Paris l&rsquo;ensemble desservait Vichy Pont-de-Dore Ambert La Chaise-Dieu All\u00e8gre Darsac le-Puy Solignac-sur-Loire Costaros Landos Pradelles et Langogne vers la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e et N\u00eemes. max-height: 10000px' \/><\/picture> <\/a> <\/figure>\n<p><strong>L&rsquo;Etat central responsable tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t de l&rsquo;isolement ferroviaire du Velay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s 1917 la compagnie <span class=\"caps\">PLM<\/span> se trouvait sous la pression de l&rsquo;autorit\u00e9 militaire qui lui imposait un programme de d\u00e9pose d&rsquo;une voie sur deux sur certaines lignes \u00e0 double sens de circulation. Si la d\u00e9pose de la voie a \u00e9t\u00e9 entam\u00e9e, l&rsquo;armistice du 11\u00a0novembre freinera la man\u0153uvre.<\/p>\n<p><strong>33 petites ann\u00e9es d&rsquo;ouverture aux voyageurs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sans doute une histoire un peu plus longue avec les marchandises. Le service voyageur est interrompu une premi\u00e8re fois le 18\u00a0avril 1939, puis reprend provisoirement de 1944 \u00e0 1950 par l&rsquo;ajout d&rsquo;une voiture de voyageurs aux trains de marchandises. Elle est ferm\u00e9e d\u00e9finitivement \u00e0 cette derni\u00e8re date. Le projet d&rsquo;ouvrir cette ligne \u00e0 l&rsquo;autorail saisonnier Toulouse &#8211; Lyon et retour, un moment envisag\u00e9, ne verra jamais le jour pour des raisons financi\u00e8res, malgr\u00e9 une diminution de 73 kilom\u00e8tres de ce parcours et l&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat des habitants bien dispos\u00e9s \u00e0 utiliser la ligne. Seul reste, jusqu&rsquo;en 1988, un maigre trafic marchandise entre Landos et Le Puy-en-Velay. Le 18\u00a0septembre 1992, la ligne est d\u00e9class\u00e9e de Brives-Charensac \u00e0 Langogne et le 23\u00a0octobre 2008, le tron\u00e7on du point kilom\u00e9trique 1,464 \u00e0 Brives-Charensac est d\u00e9class\u00e9 \u00e0 son tour. En 1996, la section entre Landos et Brives-Charensac est d\u00e9ferr\u00e9e. Un temps, la gare de Brives-Charensac sert encore pour les marchandises, jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 l&rsquo;arr\u00eat d\u00e9finitif des circulations et pose d&rsquo;un heurtoir \u00e0 la sortie de la gare du Puy. La section comprise entre Landos et Langogne devient un itin\u00e9raire de v\u00e9lo-rail. Une voie verte est am\u00e9nag\u00e9e de Brives-Charensac \u00e0 Costaros.<\/p>\n<p><i>Un autorail exceptionnel le 4\u00a0octobre 1986 au niveau de Fourches peu avant Landos en venant de Costaros sur le plateau du Dev\u00e8s. En effet sous le r\u00e9gime \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque de voie unique \u00e0 trafic restreint, avec d\u00e9j\u00e0 la portion Landos Langogne inexploit\u00e9e, un autorail X2202 appartenant au Conseil g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de Haute-Loire circule \u00e0 l&rsquo;occasion d&rsquo;un voyage organis\u00e9 par le <span class=\"caps\">COPEF<\/span> entre Clermont et Landos.
